Monokian’s particular interest is the examination of the creative thought and learning process. We are indelibly marked by our experiences in Elementary School, and this fascinates and inspires Venessa Monokian’s work. The point of departure is her own personal experience with academia, which has been less than fulfilling. As the investigation into this subject matter progresses Monokian has found that it’s evolved from a personal critique of her own learning methods to an active inquiry into the schooling experience in America at the dawn of the 21st Century.
