Does gaining access to the viewer via comedy somehow cheapen the work? Does comedy in fact disarm the viewer and make them more open to the artist’s message? What happens when an artist embraces the American-lack of culture and uses kitsch to touch a certain note in the viewer, can this still be easily construed as ‘High Art’.
