Does gaining access to the viewer via comedy somehow cheapen the work? Does comedy in fact disarm the viewer and make them more open to the artist’s message? What happens when an artist embraces the American-lack of culture and uses kitsch to touch a certain note in the viewer, can this still be easily construed as ‘High Art’.

The French artist Fernand Leger was a major figure in the development of modernity and a prime expositor of modern urban and technological culture. His interests led him to a career that allowed him to create important public art works on an international scale.
