Intertidal Opening Reception

Opening Reception: Intertidal
12:00 pm | Jan. 20, 2018

Our latest exhibit Intertidal opens at noon Jan. 20 with a conversation between the exhibition’s curator Natalia Zuluaga and the members of the Alliance of the Southern Triangle (A.S.T.) collective. A reception will follow.

Intertidal offers a multi-disciplinary experience of what Miami might look like as the seas continue to rise. Visitors will be immersed in a series of newly-commissioned videos, audio and wall drawings by A.S.T.

This exhibit imagines Miami as an intertidal zone, an area above water at low tide, yet flooded at high tide. How could Miami adapt to live with water? How could the city change its infrastructure, economy and ecology to survive rising tides? Intertidal opens the door to conversations about the future of life in coastal South Florida.

A.S.T. (Alliance of the Southern Triangle) is a collective of artists, architects and a curator led by Diann Bauer, Felice Grodin, Patricia Margarita Hernández and Elite Kedan.

We are pleased to announce that ArtCenter/South Florida received a John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s 2016 Knight Arts Challenge grant. ArtCenter’s Art-in-Public-Life seeks to bring art into public planning by embedding artists in city governments as part of a residency program that helps to develop solutions to policy concerns.

Art-in-Public-Life builds on a tradition of artists having a meaningful impact on city government by encouraging them to imagine themselves as agents of change. The program will support a one-year residency for an artist whose practice demonstrates a concern with the social effects of dominant political, urban, and economic configurations. During the residency, the artist will work closely with the City of Miami Beach to develop long-term multi-disciplinary platforms that may address the needs of this rapidly changing city.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge funds ideas that brings South Florida together through the arts. Visit the LINK for the full list of finalists.
