Presented in partnership with O Cinema

ON VIEW  September 4 – November 2, 2014
CLOSING RECEPTION Sunday, November 2 | 11:30am

Close to Home explores Moussawel’s observations of everyday moments, activities and cultural traditions in the home of her maternal grandparents. What began as an exercise in posterity became an exploration of assimilation, aging and family dynamics. Through photography and video, Moussawel further explores loss and memory in the food traditions of her Cuban and Lebanese heritage. The preparation of food has a visceral quality that not only satisfies human need, but also brings together people, conjures up memories, tells stories and speaks to the cyclical nature of life through its ritual process. Through this work, Moussawel continues to find ties to the fading vernacular of her family’s roots.
