This class will cover the fundamentals of oil painting. Students will learn how to paint still-lifes, landscapes and portraits that express personal style. Individual instruction and demonstrations will help beginners focus on color theory, composition and form. Advanced students will work on expanding visual vocabulary and technical skills. You will work from a variety of sources.
This class will cover the fundamentals of painting with acrylics. Explore a variety of techniques and applications focusing on the versatility of the medium. This is an ideal class for the beginning or intermediate student-artist who wants to improve their painting skills. The class will cover fundamentals such as: color combination, form, texture, composition and use of brushes and other painting tools. Students will use a limited palette in order to learn how to mix a variety of colors. At the end of the six classes student will have completed 4 to 5 painting.
Learn the art of still life watercolor painting (fruit, flowers, vessels, etc.) This course will focus on mixing colors, achieving graceful representations and creating balanced compositions. Artist, Will McGaul, will demonstrate and guide you through the techniques of planning your compositions, drawing, mixing color and creating great backgrounds.
Each class will begin with a short demonstration that will allow students to learn about specific oil painting techniques. The remaining class time will be used to apply those techniques on an 8 x 10 inch canvas. Each of the 6 classes will result in a finished work of art. There will be a brief review and discussion at the end of each class.
Through a wide variety of both conventional and unconventional methods students will be learn about composition, line, form, color, and surface. In this class you are encouraged to experiment with paint, gel mediums, and unconventional materials to develop a personal vocabulary. Individual instruction, demonstrations and exercises will assist you in developing a body of work.
Learn how to paint still-life, landscapes and portraits that express your personal style exploring oil painting classic techniques. Through a series of exercises you will learn how to prepare surfaces, paint mixing, selecting and organizing your color palette, and brushwork. No previous drawing experience necessary. *Note: class not recommended for pregnant women.
Prior drawing & painting experience required. This is an oil painting course.
In this course we will concentrate on a specific assignment during each class meeting. Each assignment will aide you in learning a technique and will result in a finished painting. Assignments include: the Italian Sfumato Technique, a masterpiece inspired work, a still life, painting on a black surface, a poetry inspired work and a painting inspired by a country. Constructive artist/teacher discussion will occur at the end of each class.
This class is designed to develop and clarify your painting style and improve your technical skills. Through Individual instruction, demonstrations and exercises, beginners will focus on: color theory, composition and form; advance students will work on expanding visual vocabulary and technical skills. You will work from a variety of sources. Oil and acrylic mediums are welcome in this class.
If you're interested in learning to sketch and paint on your iPad and have just needed help with the apps and/or motivation to get started, then this workshop is for you! In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to sketch and paint with a variety of powerful and fun painting apps on the iPad: Zen Brush, Sketch Club and Art Rage.
What You’ll Learn: Primary Technical Objectives
Preparation: how to save, organize, share and back-up your iPad sketches and paintings; how to optimize your iPad and apps for maximum creative flow; how to connect your pressure-sensitive stylus to your iPad and the individual painting apps. Painting: how to define and open a new canvas and add color, texture and background imagery to it; how to choose, control and customize brushes; how to pick color; how to work with the app gallery and the share options within each app.
What You’ll Learn: Primary Artistic Objectives
How to loosen and control quality of your line; how to see a subject in terms of major abstract compositional shapes or blocks and translate that onto your digital canvas; how to start out general and then work towards selective detail; how to choose, add and work with color, both for blocking out and for accents; how to harness the power of being committed to your marks and process; and how to know when to stop or step back.
Sharing her twenty years of experience as a landscape painter, Lisa's focus for this workshop will be on the pleasures of painting en plein air, working directly from nature. We will cover everything from the basics of what you should know when taking your studio on location to the finer points of making a successful and moving painting.
Lisa will start the workshop with a painting demonstration, then guide students through the process with their own work. We will close the workshop with a group critique and individualized advice for continuing your plein air painting experiences.
Please note- Students should bring their lunch, beverages, sunscreen and a hat.
