Juan Pablo Garza

Juan Pablo Garza was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He works with a variety of mediums including photography, painting, sculpture, installation, video, mixed media and found materials.  Through a meticulously experimental method, he creates new poetics, activated by a critical understanding and a sensitive reaction to the space that contains the work. Garza has  exhibited in museums and galleries in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Canada, United States, Spain, Holland and Germany. He was the co-founder and co-director of the Contemporary Art Space Al Borde (2010-2014) in Maracaibo, which in 2012 won a grant from the Fundación Cisneros/CPPC. In 2012 he received a grant from the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (CPPC) to attend the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.  Most recently he participated in Ox-Bow School of Art and Residency (Michigan) and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts’ residency program
