Visiting Artist Talk: Julio Galeote

Galeote has been in residence at ArtCenter/South Florida since mid-March as part of an international artist exchange program with Centro de Arte Alcobendas located in the northern part of the Community of Madrid in Spain. His photographic practice searches to explore possible realities from a constructed image, combining the idea of installation and representation, through compositions made in a studio. Galeote works with different found objects presented as sculpture, creating new planes in the perception of the everyday.

A graduate of the Royal College of Art (London), Galeote has exhibited at institutions including the Photographer’s Gallery and Christie’s Gallery in London; and Círculo de Bellas Artes, Tabacalera, MACUF, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid. He has particiapted in international group shows and art fairs such as ARCO, MadridPhoto, SWAB, the London Art Fair, and PHotoEspaña. Galeote has participated in residencies and fellowships at the Spanish Academy in Rome, la Filature in France, and the Young Artists in Residence Program in Málaga. He has received awards from the Circuitos de Artes Plásticas de la Comunidad de Madrid; INJUVE, the prestigious Purificación García Photography contest; FreshFaced+WildEyed; among others. His work is in public and private collections and he is represented by Sociedad Anónima Gallery in Madrid.
