LITERARY ARTS SALON
With Award-Winning Poet, Novelist, Playwright and Human Rights Advocate Chenjerai Hove, A “Creator” in Exile from Zimbabwe

Wednesday, November 6, 2013 | 7pm

Project 924 | 924 Lincoln Road, Second Floor, Miami Beach

Under the threat of death from the repressive regime of President Robert Mugabe, Chenjerai Hove, a leading figure of post-colonial Zimbabwean literature, was forced to leave his homeland in 2001. In exile now, he continues his vocal criticism of human rights abuses and uses his stature as a noted novelist, essayist, poet, journalist, political activist and public intellectual to denounce oppressive governments. A former president of the Zimbabwe Writers Union and the founding member of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association, Mr. Hove is the author of several highly acclaimed novels, Bones, Shadows, and Ancestors, among them. He has lectured widely, and has been a writer in residence at many universities in Europe and the USA. In 2010-2011, he was a guest writer in Miami through the International Cities of Refuge Network, an organization that aids writers in exile. Mr. Hove has been in residence in the Writer’s Room at The Betsy-South Beach from October 13 to November 9, 2013.
