JURIED ARTIST PROGRAM
ArtCenter/South Florida offers subsidized studio spaces for emerging artists. Acceptance into the Juried Artist Program hinges upon strength of work, a well-conceived artists statement and the potential to benefit from a residency. BENEFITS MADE AVAILABLE TO ALL ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE: LOW COST STUDIOS ArtCenter houses 47 subsidized workspaces appropriate for visual artists of all genres. Our studios range from 167 to 572 square feet and are rented at a rate of $8.50 per square foot. Additional charges include a common area fee, an energy surcharge, a $200 annual fee, and 7% sales tax. All terms of the lease will be carefully explained to you at the time of the lease signing. CAREER DEVELOPMENT The ArtCenter has ongoing programming that is geared toward developing the carreers of individual artists. ArtCritic is a program in which prominent Critics, Curators, and Gallerists conduct one–on–one studio visits with Artists – in - Residence. ArtSalon affords ArtCenter Artists exclusive access to private collections and museum exhibitions. Additionally the artists are put in direct contact with the collectors and curators affiliated with said institutions. ArtSmart makes accessible both artists and their studios to art patrons. This program is available exclusively in the winter/spring months. COOPERATIVE FACILITIES Photography and printmaking facilities are available to all juried artists. TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES ArtCenter offers all juried artists teaching opportunities in its ArtStudies Program. ArtStudies is a community arts education program that offers classes in a wide range of media for students of all ages. ArtAdventures and ArtCamp, programs specifically tailored to younger audiences, provide additional teaching opportunities. EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES 800 Lincoln Road Gallery: ArtCenter’s 800 Lincoln Road Gallery offers artists, curators, and educators from the South Florida Community opportunities to present projects to ArtCenter’s Exhibition Committee. The ArtCenter encourages Artists–in-Residence to submit Exhibition proposals and favor proposals from outside curators/organizers that feature the work of ArtCenter artists. Lincoln Road Windows and Windows at Walgreen's: ArtCenter’s storefront window spaces are available on a rotation basis exclusively to ArtCenter Juried Artists. APPLY If interested in applying for a residency at ArtCenter/South Florida please print, complete and return the Juried Artist Application (Microsoft Word format) to: ArtCenter/South Florida 924 Lincoln Road, Suite 205 Miami Beach, FL 33139 A panel of jurors composed of arts professionals and artists evaluate applications and work samples. ArtCenter Juried Artist status and all its benefits are valid for a term of three years from the date of the jury selection. Juried terms are renewable once, for a total of six years. Those artists who wish to be considered for senior resident status may do so after completing their six-year residency. If selected as a Senior Resident, those artists will be eligible for one to three more years. Artists who have ArtCenter studios are required to be present in their studios a minimum of 30 hours a week and need to be present during exhibition openings or other events. All ArtCenter Juried Artists are required to volunteer 10 hours a month within any of the ArtCenter’s programs. 3 – 6 MONTH JURIED ARTIST PROGRAM In addition to Long Term Residencies, ArtCenter/South Florida offers a 3-6 Month Residency Program. This Program is made available to artists interested in executing a new body of work during their term at the ArtCenter. Proposals for short-term studio space are reviewed depending on availability of studio space, quality of work, and the applicant’s ability to contribute to other ArtCenter programs. Applicants are asked to outline a specific project for the duration of their stay. Those chosen for the 3-6 month Juried Artist Program will be expected to schedule monthly reviews with the Director of Artist Services regarding the applicant's ability to bring the proposal to fruition.
