The Recalibrated Institution  – NO CURRENT OPEN CALL

From September 18 to December 15, 2017, ArtCenter/South Florida and the Bureau for Cultural Strategies (BUX) are organizing The Recalibrated Institution: a 12-week paid fellowship and laboratory in Miami for developing and testing intelligences that address emerging and long-term systemic challenges.

The Recalibrated Institution will welcome eight fellows–three from Miami–selected for their work in contemporary art, design, architecture and related disciplines, as well as cultural managers, economists, coders and all those interested in innovative institutional models and infrastructural set-ups. The selected fellows will receive a stipend of 3,750 USD and roundtrip travel expenses to Miami. In addition, live/work housing in Downtown Miami will also be provided for up to five fellows, with priority given to practitioners coming from outside of Miami.

The eight fellows will work with strategists Marta Ferreira de Sá and Ben Singleton (Rival Strategy), theorist Suhail Malik (Programme Co-Director of the MFA in Fine Art, Goldsmiths, University of London), artist and core organizer of W.A.G.E.(Working Artists and the Greater Economy) Lise Soskolne and others on designing frameworks to be probed in partnership with different cultural institutions in Miami and internationally. A series of public programs will also unfold throughout the course of the fellowship program.

Es Baluard

International Exchange – NO CURRENT OPEN CALL

Opportunity to participate in Les Cliniques, organized by Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Palma de Mallorca, Spain

ArtCenter/South Florida is pleased to announce an open call to ArtCenter alumni and current studio residents to participate in a 7-day International Exchange program with Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The selected artist will travel to Palma de Mallorca, Spain and engage with participants involved in the opening days of the 2017-2018 Les Cliniques organized by Es Baluard.
The selected artist will receive a travel stipend and accommodations in order to explore the local art scene in Palma de Mallorca and participate in group discussions and critiques organized by EsBaluard. Please note: in order to take full advantage of this experience, selected artist must have a fluent ability to understand Spanish, even if primary spoken language is English. Upon their return, selected artists is expected to organize a public program drawn from her/his experience during this exchange.

Studio Residency


The residency program offers studio spaces at our Miami Beach location for up to 14 exceptional artists, curators, and cultural practitioners working in a range of disciplines. In addition to engaging with a community of artists, visiting scholars, and institutional partners in Miami, ArtCenter Residents are provided the space from which to research and develop their practice and are invited to actively participate in ArtCenter’s programs such as The Program for Applied Artistic Research, public programming, and our community outreach initiatives.

ArtCenter/South Florida’s PRINTshop Residency Program is ideal for artists who are committed to experimentation and innovation, seeking artistic & professional development, and are interested in being a part of and contributing to a dynamic community of local, national and international artists and creative thinkers. Located in the heart of South Beach on Lincoln Road, a commercial pedestrian mall, ArtCenter offers a unique residency experience in an urban, yet tropical setting. With a constant flow of visitors, ranging from beach lovers to art collectors, ArtCenter resident artists engage with the public on a regular basis. An ArtCenter residency offers opportunities for engagement and cross-cultural exchange with South Florida-based artists and audiences. PRINTshop Residency Program offers artists access to ArtCenter’s print facility to develop new work and advance their artistic careers. Residencies are one (1) year-long in a shared studio.

ARTSail Residency & Research Program

This Fall ArtCenter/South Florida launched ARTSail, an artist residency aboard a sailboat, with a $40,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its 2015 Knight Arts Challenge.

ARTSail, in partnership with the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, is a nomadic, floating art project that seeks to explore and take advantage of the extensive coastlines and waterways that surround Miami. ArtCenter will host one-month residencies on Miami’s waterways aboard a vessel where artists will be commissioned to create work inspired by Miami’s relationship to the water.

 International Exchange 

As part of ArtCenter/South Florida’s residency programs, an International Exchange Program was successfully launched in the summer of 2013. Since then, ArtCenter has established partnerships with national and international organizations, including: Acción Cultural Española (Madrid, Spain), Panal 361 (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (Winnipeg, Canada), Centro de Arte Alcobendas (Alcobendas, Spain) just to mention a few.

This program offers artists and curators the opportunity to complete a short-term residency at ArtCenter. During the residency period, artists and curators develop a project, network and exchange ideas with the community. In exchange, ArtCenter alumni and resident artists travel abroad for international residencies to expand their network and gain exposure for their work.


Panal 361, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Founded in 2012, PANAL 361 is a creative center with 30 studio spaces, located in the Abasto neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. PANAL 361 fosters the intersection of different disciplines and the development of emerging and established artists. The International Cultural Exchange Program is open to  ArtCenter/South Florida Alumni interested in participating in a research and/or production residency at PANAL 361. In exchange, ArtCenter has hosted the following artists from Panal 361: Pablo Mozuc, Natalia Marcantoni and Ananke Asseff.

Fellowship Program 

MFU: MIAMI is  ArtCenter/South Florida’s Fellowship Program pilot semester, which brings together distinguished faculty, education initiatives, and cultural practitioners to foster dialogues and projects that shed light around contemporary realities in the cultural sphere and beyond it. The program provides residents interested in working outside traditional disciplinary boundaries with the resources, time, and feedback to develop programs and courses that will be taught in future iterations of ArtCenter’s Program for Applied Artistic Research. Each semester is designed in collaboration with a partner education initiative in an effort to build a dynamic, informal, and yet rigorous research platform within Miami.

TransVisiones|Alcobendas_2015 is an artistic residency project using photography as a point of departure. It consists of six artistic residencies celebrated simultaneously in the city of Alcobendas and the following locations: ArtCenter/South Florida in Miami Beach, Florida, USA; Centro de la Imagen de Lima in Lima, Peru and Instituto Sonorense de Cultura in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
