ArtCenter provides access to resource and support, creates opportunities for experimentation and innovation, and encourages the exchange of ideas across cultures and professional disciplines via short-term and long-term residencies. ArtCenter serves the diverse residents and visitors of South Florida through open studios, exhibitions, education, and outreach programming.
ArtCenter houses 45 subsidized workspaces appropriate for visual artists of all genres. Our studios range from 167 to 572 square feet. Studio rents are currently charged at $9.00 per square foot, on an annual basis. Additional charges include a common area fee, a $5.00 Wi-Fi fee, an energy surcharge, a $200 annual fee, and 7% sales tax. All terms of the lease will be carefully explained to you at the time of the lease signing.
Please note that this is a studio residency only; housing is not included. Artists are responsible for finding and paying for their own housing.
Types of Residencies
Long-term A panel of four jurors comprised of arts professionals and artist-in-residence evaluate applications. Applications for long-term residencies are reviewed bi-annually on April 1st and September 1st. ArtCenter juried artist status and its benefits are valid for a term of three years from the date of the lease signing. Juried terms are renewable once, for a total of six years for Senior Resident Artist status. If selected as a Senior Resident Artist, those artists will be eligible for one to three more years.
Short-term residencies are reviewed on a rolling basis and are primarily designated for project based applicants. Terms are designated for 3-6 months. Proposals for short term studio space are reviewed based upon availability of studio space, quality of work, merit of the proposed project, and the applicant’s ability to contribute to other ArtCenter programs. A panel of arts professionals and artists evaluates applications.
Visiting invited artists are selected based on partnerships with foreign governments and private foundations. Typically artists are nominated through the partner, or by invitation. Artists interested in a short-term residency may apply independently but have to acquire their own funding.
All artists who have ArtCenter studios are required to be present in their studios a minimum of 30 hours per week and need to be present during exhibition openings or special events. Juried artists are required to volunteer 10 hours a month to ArtCenter’s programs.
