Ariel Baron-Robbins

Ariel Baron-Robbins is an interdisciplinary artist currently working in photo, video and drawing. She creates pieces from semi-performative excursions in public parks, near lakes in Miami and on trips abroad. Ariel performs in the landscape by using a digital camera on a self-timer to capture the moments where her body and the surrounding landscape merge. In the studio, she continues to manipulate the surface of the photograph with brush, pen, ink and other drawing media, then re-photographs, and re-prints the manipulated image. The physical and digital manipulation she encounters lead her to respond intuitively, seeing it as simply another way to abstract.

Baron-Robbins’ recent exhibitions include A Different Frame of Mind, Contemporary Art Museum, FL (2014); Brooklyn Open-Studios, NY (2014); and Generations IX, AIR Gallery, NY (2013). She received her MFA from the University of South Florida in 2010 and her BFA from the University of Mississippi in 2006.
