Opening Reception: April 27, 2017 | 7 – 9 pm

Still/Moving aims to examine the progression from photography to cinema, a still image to series, series to sequence, and sequence to film. The exhibit reveals a deconstructed experience highlighting the shared relationship between the still and motion picture; so that audiences may understand the mechanisms and interconnectedness of cinema and photography. Still/Moving is curated by and features artwork from FIU MFA Candidates Barbara Bollini Roca, Jose L. Garcia, Paul Perdomo and German Ruiz.

The Opening Reception will feature the film screening of the documentary Finding Vivian Maier.

Finding Vivian Maier (2013)

83 min

Finding Vivian Maier is the critically acclaimed documentary about a mysterious nanny, who secretly took over 100,000 photographs that were hidden in storage lockers and, discovered decades later, is now among the 20th century’s greatest photographers. Directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel, Maier’s strange and riveting life and art are revealed through never before seen photographs, films, and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her.

ArtCenter/South Florida is pleased to present exhibitions organized by candidates of Florida International University’s Master of Fine Arts program. The exhibitions will take place at the Windows at Walgreens and at O Cinema Wynwood. These projects are the result of an ongoing collaboration between the ArtCenter and FIU’s College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts where MFA candidates are provided resources, exhibition opportunities, and participate in lectures, seminars, and programs at ArtCenter/South Florida.
