Stemming from everyday urban scenes from her native Dominican Republic, Rodriguez brings new life to her subjects represented in her mixed media collages. Stark economic and social differences exist throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Rodriguez presents this disparity with drawings of children within a backdrop of decorative patterns often found on wallpapers, scarves and other objects usually associated with more affluent culture. Rodriguez recently began incorporating maps of international cities emphasizing that this economic and social hierarchy exist throughout the world. Extracting her subjects from their original context and harsh reality, Rodriguez also explores issues related to personal and social intimacy, identity, isolation and the effects of politics and the media
