Totem to Helios by AMLgMATD/ Laz Ojalde & Natalie Zlamalova (ArtCenter/South Florida)
AMLgMATD is the collaborative team of artists/designers Laz Ojalde and Natalie Zlamalova. AMLgMATD combines Zlamalova’s geometric abstract forms and Ojalde’s functional and aesthetic ideals. Ojalde is a mixed media artist whose inspiration comes from the love of the everyday object; the mundane, the functional, the gimmicky to the refined. Zlamalova is a mixed media artist who explores the crossroads between the states of being asleep and awake—the hypnagogic state. Her ink washes are illogical and coincidental and contrast her hand-constructed geometric lines and patterns—the logical and the premeditated.

About ArtCenter/South Florida –
ArtCenter/South Florida was founded by Ellie Schneiderman in the spring of 1984 on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach as an organization to address the community’s cultural needs. Today, ArtCenter is credited as being the catalyst for the revitalization of Lincoln Road and its surrounding areas, having provided studio residencies and exhibition opportunities to more than 1,000 visual artists, while also offering art classes and outreach programs to the community. ArtCenter prides itself in being one of the few institutions in South Florida that grants free admission to all of its exhibitions and other public programming in an effort to make the arts accessible to all. ArtCenter is located at 924 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, FL, Miami Beach, with a temporary exhibition space, ArtCenter [Little River Edition] in the Little River District at 7252 NW Miami Ct., Miami.

Founded in December 2001 as an educational corporation and not-for-profit alternative space, PARTICIPANT INC seeks to provide a venue in which artists, curators, and writers can develop, realize, and present ambitious projects within a context that recognizes the social and cultural value of artistic experimentation. The mission of PARTICIPANT INC is to serve artists through in-depth consideration, presentation, and the publishing of critical writing; and to introduce this work into public contexts through exhibitions, screenings, performances, and educational programs. Our mission builds upon alternative space methodologies, particularly a commitment to interdisciplinary, intergenerational exhibition making, and an insistence upon placing together, in one space, work from various mediums — encouraging the coexistence of visual and time-based art. The programming priorities of PARTICIPANT INC reflect the premise that artists produce significant work through a deep relationship with an organization whose focus is its committed collaborations with them. By encouraging experimentation and project-based exhibitions for artists at many different stages of their careers, PARTICIPANT INC strives to address the changing context of alternative arts presenting and to respond responsibly to the diverse practices of artists.
