Repeat pattern entrances our eyes; we see it in nature, in the ornate tile mosaics of the Middle East and North Africa and throughout the fashion world. This course is designed to introduce students to the process of creating hand-made repeat patterns for fabric.
Using silk screens and fabric ink, Students will design and burn 1-color images onto their screens. We will go over the precise measuring and registration criteria for this process, as well as the ability and benefits of “building in mistakes” for our designs. We will then use the T-square method to create repeat pattern prints on students’ fabric of choice.
Students will be asked to bring in their own substrate (fabric of choice) and sketches for their design.
All other materials will be provided.
This course is an intermediate/advanced level course and is designed for students with some knowledge of silkscreen techniques and applications.
