Working with artists, museums, foundations and universities, Viso is senior advisor at Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. She is a Visiting Scholar at the Smithsonian Institution and a Fellow at the Mellon Foundation.
She previously served as executive director of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and curator of contemporary art and director at Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C. as well as positions at High Museum of Art in Atlanta and Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach. Viso has served on the boards of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and the Association of Art Museum Directors and is currently the Vice-Chair of the Marion Boulton Stroud Foundation.
In 2013 she was appointed by President Obama to the National Council on the Arts.
